FAQs

Want to become an au pair in Switzerland or host one? Our FAQ covers all the key details to help you get started!

While knowledge of a local language (German, French, or Italian) is beneficial, it’s not mandatory. Many families appreciate English-speaking au pairs.

The typical duration is 12 months, with the possibility of extension depending on your visa and host family’s needs.

Au pairs are provided with a private room and meals as part of their compensation package.

Au pair placements in Switzerland operate under different visa regulations depending on nationality. EU nationals aged 18-30 have more favourable placement opportunities due to simplified visa requirements. For non-EU citizens, the age range is more restrictive, spanning from 18-24 years old, making early applications particularly advantageous. Please note that Philippine nationals are currently not eligible for au pair positions in Switzerland. Final placement success varies by canton for non-EU citizens and must be coordinated through a SECO-approved agency in Switzerland. We recommend initiating the process as early as possible (well before your 22nd /23rd birthday) to maximise your chances of securing a position.
